Newbury favourite Boswells to open new café at Parkway

Family-run café brand signs 15-year lease and prepares to open striking new venue this June

A much-loved Newbury café brand will be returning to the town centre this summer as Boswells prepares to open a new location at Parkway Shopping.

The family-run business, which has served customers in Newbury for more than 40 years, will open its new 4,700 sq ft café in June after signing a 15-year lease at the centre.

Boswells was previously based at the Kennet Centre but had to relocate following the site’s planned redevelopment. Parkway Shopping has worked closely with the business to secure a prominent new location in the centre.

The new café will make full use of the unit’s large glazed windows, with plans for a high-quality interior fit-out and outdoor seating.

Founded in 1972, Boswells now operates 19 cafés across the south of England, including sites in Didcot, Reading, Basingstoke and Oxford. The independent family business is run by the third generation of the Burn family – brothers Nick, Matt and Tim – and sister, Charlotte Jones.

The café will offer Boswells’ well-known mix of freshly prepared food and drinks, from all-day breakfasts and lunches to afternoon tea, snacks and a wide range of coffees, teas, smoothies and milkshakes. A management team is already in place, with recruitment underway for additional staff as Boswells continues its strong focus on friendly, hands-on customer service.

Nick Burn, Managing Director of Boswells, said:We’re really excited to be opening a new café at Parkway Shopping and continuing our long relationship with Newbury. The town has supported Boswells for over 40 years and we’re looking forward to welcoming our loyal customers back, as well as introducing new ones to our café. This is a fantastic unit and we’re excited to create a beautiful new space for customers to enjoy.”

Andrew Marmot, Centre Manager at Parkway Shopping, said: “Boswells is a much-loved part of Newbury’s café scene, so we were really keen to help them remain in the town. It’s great to see them taking such a prominent unit at Parkway for their new home and we know their loyal customers will be pleased to see them back serving coffee and great food in Newbury.”

Parkway Shopping has also recently relocated independent crafts hub Artisans to a new position further along the mall. Further announcements about another new national retailer joining the centre will be revealed soon.
