  • Primark officially opens its doors at Newbury Parkway Shopping Centre today, 15th April, marking the retailer’s 197th store in the UK.

15th April 2024: Primark has today unveiled its brand-new store, located at Parkway Shopping Centre in Newbury, which is the retailer’s 197th store in the UK.

To mark the occasion in store today, enthusiastic shoppers and Primark fans were greeted by a live DJ, bringing the party atmosphere.

Over 100 new retail roles were created to form the Newbury store team, which measures 25,000 sq. ft. set over two floors and includes customers’ favourites across fashion, accessories, beauty, lifestyle and home. Locals will also be able to use self-service checkouts for the first time, with other new features including LED lighting and updated display units that will create a more modern shopping experience.

Customers have also been ordering already to take advantage of its popular Click & Collect service arriving early ahead of the store’s opening. From day one, Newbury shoppers can order from thousands of Primark products online across womenswear, menswear, kidswear and homeware, for pick up from the new store when it officially opens its doors next week.

Click & Collect will offer local shoppers access to expanded ranges not typically available in-store. This includes Primark’s affordable adaptive clothing range, which launched earlier this year. The range offers more than 40 stylish wardrobe staples, specially designed around the needs of those living with a disability in partnership with adaptive designer and disability campaigner, Victoria Jenkins.

Primark Newbury’s Store Manager, Cian Gough said: “We’re excited that the time has finally arrived for us to open our brand-new store at Newbury Parkway and I’m so proud of all the colleagues involved in today’s opening. It’s a fantastic milestone to be marking our 197th store in the UK right here in the heart of Newbury, after such strong anticipation and a warm welcome from the local community.”

Parkway Shopping Centre Manager, Andrew Marmot said: “Primark’s arrival marks an exciting new chapter for Parkway and for Newbury. We’re thrilled  to welcome such a well-loved brand to the centre and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our town and the local economy.”

As the retailer’s 197th store on the UK high street, Newbury joins nearby Primark locations across Berkshire, including Reading, Slough and Bracknell.

Primark announced earlier this year that it planned to roll out Click & Collect to all stores in England, Scotland and Wales by this summer. The ongoing rollout of Click & Collect is just one part of Primark’s ongoing investments in its stores, as it continues to look at ways to give shoppers greater convenience and choice and more reasons to visit their local high street.

Independent research conducted by Public First found that the retailer contributes £2.6 billion to the UK economy and supports 54,000 jobs across the country. In addition, 2.3 million people cite Primark as the main reason for visiting their high street each week, with every £10 spent at a Primark store generating an additional £3.60 for the high street. This means Primark supports around £1 billion of spending in other stores and £500 million in restaurants each year.
